Chehon Wespi-Tschopp: So You Think You Can Dance
Music: Jacques Brel
Senior ADC Prize Winner 2009
Chehon Wespi-Tschopp has been much the topic of conversation lately or at least in my conversations. After his explosive audition on So You Think You Can Dance, what with his amazing talent and those boyish good looks he has to be a shoo-in for the show.
I am not a big fan of So You Think You Can Dance. I think the show is not so much about dancing but about pyrotechnical tricks and is more of a popularity contest than a dance contest. When Danny Tidwell did not win in Season 3 it’s been hard for me to take SYTYCD seriously.
But with Chehon Wespi-Tschopp performing I will be sure to DVR the show. That way I can fast forward the lame judges’ comments…the sound of Nigel Lythgoe’s voice just grates my nerves like nails on a chalkboard. I know, I know he has done a lot for dance, helping bring it into the forefront and into people’s living rooms, but, well, sorry.
Chehon was born in Chicago, IL and raised in Sydney, Australia and Zürich, Switzerland. He began dancing at age 13 and when he was 14 he was accepted into The Royal Ballet School, London (RBS) where he graduated in 2008. He won the Silver Medal at the American Dance Competition in the Senior Division for Classical Ballet in 2009 as well as the ADC Prize. Before his appearance on SYTYCD he had been a principal dancer with both the Los Angeles Ballet and Twyla Tharp’s ‘Come Fly Away’ 1st National Tour. His choreography has won several awards including the prestigious Ursula Moreton Choreographic Award.
His other awards in dance and choreography consist of…

1st Prize Elmhurst Choreographic Competition, 06
1st Prize Royal Ballet Choreographic Competition, 08
