Young Dancemakers Company is a unique free summer performing ensemble of teens. The company consists of 16-18 young dancers drawn from New York City’s public high schools city-wide and are selected by audition.  Throughout July the company will present concerts of the dancers’ original choreography, based on meaningful personal experiences and social themes that are important to today’s youth.

The students participate in daily intensive training and rehearsal sessions, starting in NY Live Arts (formerly Dance Theater Workshop) and then moving the studios of the Fieldston School, in the Riverdale section of the Bronx.

Under the guidance of director/founder Alice Teirstein, this is the 17th year of the Young Dancemakers Company. Each season Ms. Teirstein has guided and nurtured the city’s teenage youth in the creation and performing of original works by the young dancers. They will perform not only their original works but also the choreography of Robert Battle (Alvin Ailey Artistic Director) and Sean Curran.

All performances end with the lively and popular “Dance With Us,” in which audience members are invited onto the stage for some post-concert improvisation.
